We continue our reveals of each of our Ozcar categories, and today we bring you who you voted as the top 28 best second boots of all time! You know the winner, you know the final five, but did your favourite contestant just miss out on reaching the finals? Read on to find out!
The rankings for the second boot were compiled by asking our audience who they thought the best second boot of all time was. Separately, we asked each one of our Ozlets to list their favourite second boot of all time. Each contestant was given a point for each vote they received, and the top 5 at the end of the first voting period were announced as the finalists. A separate voting period was held to announce the overall winner, with the remainder of the top 5 being listed in order of how the finished in the final vote. We have listed where each second boot finished in the audience rankings as well as the Ozlet ranking, and the top 5 have also had listed where they initially finished before the separate final voting.
28. Janet Koth (Amazon) – Total Score 5
POLL RANK: 28th
S-OZ RANK: 28th
Everyone loves Janet right? Everyone remembers Janet right? Well unfortunately for Janet not enough people do or did to prevent her from finishing last! Sorry Janet!
27. Nina Acosta (One World) – Total Score 6
POLL RANK: 27th
S-OZ RANK: 27th
We love Nina at Survivor Oz so it’s a shame that she made it so low on this list. I still stand by the fact that she could’ve gone a lot deeper on One World than she ended up, and she is one that I would love to see play again!
26. Erica Durousseau (Fiji) – Total Score 8
POLL RANK: 26th
S-OZ RANK: 26th
From a season that isn’t often talked about too much, Erica doesn’t finish last so that’s a bonus! But she also finishes well outside the top 20. That’s not!
25. Patricia Jackson (Marquesas) – Total Score 9
POLL RANK: 25th
S-OZ RANK: 25th
Patricia gave an interesting interview on this show a few years back and perhaps that won her some votes on this list. She beat a few people, but ended up near the bottom. Probably around where I would expect her to finish.
24. Melinda Hyder (Panama) – Total Score 11
POLL RANK: 24th
S-OZ RANK: 24th
Melinda was great, and it’s sad to see her so low. But I guess she isn’t a stand out second boot unlike some others on this list. Better luck next time!
23. Roxanne “Roxy” Morris (Philippines) – Total Score 14
POLL RANK: 23rd
S-OZ RANK: 23rd
Honestly thought Roxy would finish higher, top 20 minimum really! But alas she doesn’t and takes 23rd. Roxy was great, I was a fan and would’ve loved to see her go further. But she gets to appear on a list like this, so yeah, that works.
22. Morgan McDevitt (Guatemala) – Total Score 15
POLL RANK: 22nd
S-OZ RANK: 12th
No player has surprised me as much as Morgan McDevitt when it came to excitement for an interview. Seriously, so many of you went crazy over the fact that we had her lined up for a chat! But it’s been close to two years since we had it planned and it still hasn’t happened. When we make it happen, she’ll be a top 10 on this list!
21. Jessie Camacho (Africa) – Total Score 18
POLL RANK: 21st
S-OZ RANK: 22nd
Jesse is another one of these ‘could’ve’ players who could’ve gone far had she not gotten sick. Seemingly popular on her tribe and a lot stronger than anyone gives her credit for, she would’ve made a big impact on Africa had her body been able to control itself! A great interviewee though!
20. Jolanda Jones (Palau) – Total Score 19
POLL RANK: 20th
S-OZ RANK: 21st
Technically the third person to go from Palau, we counted Jolanda as a ‘second boot’ down to the fact that we classified Wanda & Jonathan as first boots last year. Winning immunity in the same episode as you go home isn’t exactly the best thing to be able to lay claim to, but it’s something that Jolanda can at least be remembered by.
19. Candace Smith (Tocantins) – Total Score 24
POLL RANK: 19th
S-OZ RANK: 11th
Candace was on Tocantins. Did you know that? Well she was, and she had enough fans to get her into the top 20! Well done Candace, well done!
18. Mary Sartain/Montane (Micronesia) – Total Score 24
POLL RANK: 18th
S-OZ RANK: 20th
17. Ryan Shoulders (Pearl Islands) – Total Score 26
POLL RANK: 17th
S-OZ RANK: 10th
Skinny Ryan comes from one of the most popular seasons in the history of Survivor so he was always going to get votes and narrowly misses out on a top 15 spot. I remember being a fan of his from the beginning but then quickly forgetting about him by the time he went home. And that happened in two episodes. Awkward.
16. Mark “Papa Bear” Curuso (South Pacific) – Total Score 30
POLL RANK: 16th
S-OZ RANK: 19th
Papa Bear was a great character and personally one person I would’ve loved to have seen go further. Does a great job in still being active in the community and has a lot of fans out there, and that’s always a win if you go home so early in the game!
15. Ashley Massaro (China) – Total Score 33
POLL RANK: 15th
S-OZ RANK: 18th
Ashley was one badass chick who I remember tipping as somebody who would go far and make an impact. As often is the case with my predictions however, i fail miserably, and I did so again this time around. Still kickin’ ass in the real world however, we are trying our hardest to get her on the show to chat about her time in China! Fingers crossed!
14. Mike Borassi (Samoa) – Total Score 34
POLL RANK: 14th
S-OZ RANK: 17th
One of only two players on this list not to have been voted out, Mike Borassi has the unfortunate distinction of being the only second boot in the history of Survivor to be medically evacuated. It obviously didn’t do him too much harm though as he still manages to get a top 15 spot and miss out on the top 10 by less than 10 votes! A good result!
13. Colton Cumbie (Blood vs Water) – Total Score 38
POLL RANK: 12th
S-OZ RANK: 16th
The man who divides, Colton became a second boot by choice when he voluntarily left the game in Blood vs Water. Already an Ozcar winner, he was unable to get his fans to take him up high enough this year to challenge for victory.
12. Dolly Neely (Vanuatu) – Total Score 38
POLL RANK: 13th
S-OZ RANK: 9th
No disrespect to Dolly, but it surprises me she finished so high on this list and beat out some big names. Probably would’ve tipped her to be a bottom half finisher, she is by far the surprise packet on this list. So for that, I take my hat off (even though I’m not wearing one) and tip it to Ms Neely!
11. Kel Gleason (Australian Outback) – Total Score 41
POLL RANK: 11th
S-OZ RANK: 15th
Oh Kel. Still after all these years your name is synonymous with beef jerky and Jerri Manthey. But I’m going to say this but I love the man. That’s only because I love everyone from the Australian Outback. To me it’s still the most perfectly casted season in the history of Survivor. So when I can say that, of course Kel is going to be loved! Robbed of a top 10 spot!
10. Shannon Elkins (Nicaragua) – Total Score 42
POLL RANK: 10th
S-OZ RANK: 8th
Not only is Shannon one memorable contestant for perhaps the wrong reasons, he is also the only contestant to ever say the ‘c word’ on Survivor Oz. There’s a random fact for you! Shannon scrapes into the top 10 as well. Good job buddy!
9. Bill Byron “B.B” Anderson (Borneo) – Total Score 45
POLL RANK: 9th
S-OZ RANK: 4th
Probably thought BB could’ve been a dark horse for a finalist spot, he still is easily one of the most memorable second boots by far in the history of the show. Whilst having some interesting concepts on how to play the game, he left Borneo a well known man and was the first ever male contestant voted out in the history of Survivor. He also sadly passed away last year. RIP BB.
8. Alexandra “Allie” Pohevitz (Caramoan) – Total Score 55
POLL RANK: 8th
S-OZ RANK: 14th
Despite the season not being over popular, Allie certainly has a strong fan base in the Survivor community so her polling well (especially in the poll itself) was no surprise. Now working as a casting person for CBS, she certainly went from one side of the Survivor spectrum to the other! Great finish Allie!
7. Rudy Boesch (All-Stars) – Total Score 109
POLL RANK: 7th
S-OZ RANK: 7th
Early on it looked as though Rudy was on for a finalist finish on this list as he polled strong in the opening few days. He dropped off however and taking 7th is still a good result for everybody’s favourite Navy SEAL!
6. Gillian Larson (Gabon) – Total Score 113
POLL RANK: 6th
S-OZ RANK: 2nd
ROBBED! The grandmother of Survivor Oz and the woman who is responsible for this show even existing missing out on a finals spot?! I AM LIVID! She was in a finalist spot for pretty much the entire time but was knocked out at the death. Sad to see, and someone I thought would finish top 3 in this list, I personally say that she should’ve won this on her role on this show alone!
5. Stephenie LaGrossa (Heroes vs Villains) – Final Voting Percent 13.39%
POLL RANK: 4th
S-OZ RANK: 13th
POSITION AFTER FIRST ROUND: 4th (187 Points)
Stephenie is beloved by man, loathed by many. She is a polarising contestant. But she has enough fans to have her finish in the finals. She drops one spot on the first round list into 5th, but still a good result from a season that is universally loved by all. Still yet to win an Ozcar though, there is always 2015!
4. Garrett Adelstein (Cagayan) – Final Voting Percent 15.78%
POLL RANK: 5th
S-OZ RANK: 3rd
POSITION AFTER FIRST ROUND: 5th (170 Points)
The usual screams of ‘recency bias’ were always going to follow Garrett’s inclusion in this poll, but despite them Garrett definitely was a memorable second boot for many reasons. Mainly his questionable strategic moves early on, but you can also see him as being sexy and athletic which is what all the men and women love. So yeah, recency bias or not, I think he deserves a high ranking.
3. Russell Hantz (Redemption Island) – Final Voting Percent 22.61%
POLL RANK: 1st
S-OZ RANK: 5th
POSITION AFTER FIRST ROUND: 1st (284 Points)
Looked set to win this poll after the first round, Russell dropped from 1st into the bronze spot when the voting closed. Said in his most recent interview with us that he would refuse to accept the award should he won, it would’ve been interesting to see just what would’ve happened had he walked away with the prize. Still another top 3 finish for the man that you either hate or love.
2. Billy Garcia (Cook Islands) – Final Voting Percent 23.22%
POLL RANK: 3rd
S-OZ RANK: 1st
POSITION AFTER FIRST ROUND: 2nd (235 Points)
Billy had this in the bag and I think was everyone’s tip to win it all based on his connections with us and everything else he does outside of the show. But in the end he misses out by less than 200 votes on wining his first Ozcar. Such a shame Billy! Guess we’ll have to make you appear a few more hundred times before the next time we do this poll! You did at least win the Ozlet vote though!
1. Tanya Vance (Thailand) – Final Voting Percent 24.99%
POLL RANK: 2nd
S-OZ RANK: 6th
POSITION AFTER FIRST ROUND: 3rd (227 Points)
An amazing victory for the Thailand beauty, Tanya swept all before her during the final round to win her first Ozcar and the first Ozcar for Thailand as well! One of our very good friends on this show, Tanya campaigned hard during the final round of voting and battled it out with Billy, but she walked away the victor and has been smiling ever since! Congrats Tanya!
