10. Helen Glover – Thailand
In arguably the first heated exchange between juror and finalist, Helen gave us this gem of a death stare to eventual winner Brian Heidik. After her scathing speech, Brian apologized to her for hurting her feelings, to which she famously replied, “Well, it’s a little late for that!” Fortunately for Brian, Helen put her feelings aside and gave him her million-dollar vote.
9. Erik Reichenbach – Micronesia
Who can forget Erik giving up his immunity necklace to the Black Widow Brigade? Erik gave an array of amazing facial expressions during the tribal council, including this, his expression upon seeing his name on the ballots. An iconic moment made all the more better by Erik’s overall reaction to the blindside, which ended with him running out of tribal council. Everyone else’s reactions were just as good as Erik’s as well.
8. Rupert Boneham – Pearl Islands
Rupert is always good for a laugh, and in my opinion, this reaction shot to him being blindsided in Pearl Islands may be the funniest Rupert picture ever. He put an incredible amount of effort into his game and the look on his face says it all. Also great was his expression when the Drake tribe went to their third tribal council, where he says, “We shouldn’t be here!”
7. Woo Hwang – Cagayan
I debated putting Woo’s face on this list because of how early it occurred in the game, and how insignificant Cliff’s blindside turned out to be. However, I began to realize just how much people are still talking about it, especially that he’s gotten on Season 31 (and has had at least one great blindside face). Woo’s reaction to Cliff’s vote-off was easily the funniest reaction of any vote-off in Cagayan, and one of the most memorable in recent seasons.
6. Edgardo Rivera & Earl Cole – Fiji
The fall of the Four Horsemen was probably the most satisfying story arc in Fiji, culminating in an awesome tribal council in which Edgardo was voted off. The Horsemen had a hidden immunity idol, eventually played by Alex, but Earl’s alliance voted for Edgardo. Edgardo’s crestfallen face juxtaposed with Earl’s gleeful grin make the moment all the more fun to watch.
5. Alec Christy – San Juan del Sur
This iconic open-mouthed expression was probably the funniest recurring image of San Juan del Sur. The expression says it all – Alec is the master of the blank stare.
4. Gretchen Cordy – Borneo
The first-ever blindside in Survivor history also gave us one of the all-time great reaction shots in Survivor, belonging to the esteemed Gretchen. She was legitimately surprised and exited gracefully, saying, “That’s me!” Her reaction to being voted out pretty much symbolized Pagong’s general unwillingness to play strategically post-merge: they had fun playing but didn’t want to play “dirty” to get to the end.
3. Randy Bailey – Gabon
Randy was an awesome character in Gabon and his boot tribal council was one for the ages. He played Bob’s fake immunity idol and thought he’d be safe from the vote. But, upon hearing from Jeff that the idol was fake, he gave us this amazing reaction shot unlike any other. Forget you, Randy, go home, good bye.
2. Shane Powers – Panama
Coming from one the all-time great characters, Shane’s reaction to being blindsided in Panama was arguably one of the funniest facial reactions in Survivor history. His cartoonish expressions never fail to entertain, and this shot from his exit really punctuates his story arc. His ice-cream joke when bringing his torch to Jeff makes it all the better. Needless to say, it’s a real shame he didn’t get back on for Season 31.
1. Eliza Orlins – Vanuatu & Micronesia
If there is one Survivor character you can always count on for a good reaction shot, it is Eliza. Wearing her thoughts on her sleeve at tribal council, she is absolute gold every time she shows up at one. After giving fantastic shots from the vote-offs in Vanuatu she added to her repertoire with great jury reactions in Micronesia. From knowing grins to open-mouthed gapes to dagger-glaring stares, Eliza earns her rightful place as the queen of reaction shots.
Honorable mentions: Silas Gaither (Africa), John Carroll (Marquesas), Lex van den Berghe (All-Stars), Richard Hatch (All-Stars), Tom Buchannan (All-Stars), Judd Sergeant (Guatemala), Alex Angarita (Fiji), Todd Herzog (China), “Mikey B” Bortone (Micronesia), Jason SIska (Micronesia), Dave Ball (Samoa), Courtney Yates (Heroes vs. Villains – jury), Matt Elrod (Redemption Island), Jeff Kent (Philippines), Andrea Boehlke (Caramoan), Eddie Fox (Caramoan)
