For the 32nd season of Kaoh Rong we will be once again bringing you our weekly POWER RANKINGS as Ben & Noah are joined by Ozlets Colin & Jarrod to rank the contestants each week based on performance and strategy and where they are perceived to be in the game! We continue our rankings for another week with our episode 2 rankings, which we are sure will cause speculation and debate as we get closer to next weeks episode!
HOW THE RANKINGS ARE CALCULATED
Each week Ben, Noah, Colin & Jarrod will rank the remaining contestants based on their opinion of where they stand in the game, with the four totals being tallied to produce a total score. The lowest total score will be ranked at the top, with the second lowest in second, third lowest in third and so on and so forth. Each week the overall list will be published, separated into three tribes. It will combine into one list once the tribes merge (or two should there be a tribe dissolve).
Once again during Kaoh Rong we will be scoring who gets the closest each week with the POWER RANKINGS LEADERBOARD! The ranker who gets closest in predicting the previous weeks eliminated contestant will score a point. If they predict the exact finishing position then they will score 2 points. If there are two or more rankers on the same prediction/number, they will both get the said points amount. Here is the leaderboard after this weeks episode:
|1st||Ben Waterworth||1 (+1)|
CHAN LOH (BRAINS) RANKINGS
1st – Peter
OVERALL: 1st (+4)
BEN RANK: 1st
NOAH RANK: 2nd
COLIN RANK: 1st
JARROD RANK: 1st
BEN: Not much really to go on this episode for a super clear number one but he was shown a lot with lots of clear cut strategy. For that he moves up to number one for me.
NOAH: Peter has had two strong weeks in a row and is being shown as one of the main players of the Brains tribe. Like Neal he hasn’t really had any target on his back like the rest of the tribe. Debbie, Joe and Liz are all annoying people and Aubry was having her own issues in week one. Peter is in the young person alliance with Liz, Neal and Aubry but also is wanting to work with Debbie as she is non-strategic and a potential goat down the line. Not to mention he pulled through in the challenge for another win for the Brains. I see Peter sticking around at least to the merge at this point.
COLIN: Credit to Peter for recognizing the value in Debbie as a goat. The rift between Joe and Liz is opening up new possibilities for a majority alliance. I’m hoping he keeps challenge strength in mind when picking his allies. He’s the one guy on the tribe who feels like he has it in him to succeed on the outwit part of the game.
JARROD: He’s seemingly getting along with everybody on the Brains tribe right now and he feels like a definite link between the younger and older group. It doesn’t look like he’s on anybody’s radar right now.
2nd – Neal
OVERALL: =6th (-2)
BEN RANK: 9th
NOAH RANK: 6th
COLIN RANK: 6th
JARROD RANK: 3rd
BEN: Not much from Neal this episode but still is in the pointy end of the brain alliance.
NOAH: Not too much from Neal this week but they did make note of at least showing him. We can probably assume he is still in the majority alliance and so far no one seems to be annoyed at him like others are at Debbie, Joe and Liz.
COLIN: Mr. personality was all but cut from episode 2. He’s stayed out of the drama so far which is a good thing. Only Peter and Neal can make that claim so far.
JARROD: If Chan Loh go to tribal council, all chaos could break loose but Neal’s unlikely to be collateral damage. He seems to be playing a steady game and getting a decent amount of airtime.
3rd – Aubry
OVERALL: =11th (+2)
BEN RANK: 11th
NOAH RANK: 14th
COLIN RANK: 12th
JARROD RANK: 9th
BEN: Didn’t see her at all this episode, so 11th is a good spot for her.
NOAH: Aubry wasn’t in this episode.
COLIN: We had nothing new from Aubry this week. Last week I was a little more optimistic about her chances due to being in the right alliances. This week everything is shifting, and with Aubry nowhere to be see I feel she loses some steam.
JARROD: Another player who went from having a tonne of screentime in the premiere to taking a real backseat in the edit. Given her shaky start it’s probably a good thing she hasn’t been shown as struggling anymore.
4th – Liz
OVERALL: 13th (-5)
BEN RANK: 10th
NOAH RANK: 11th
COLIN RANK: 14th
JARROD RANK: 14th
BEN: Falls back a bit this week as there is the potential she is slipping down and could be a target easily. But still think at this rate she might just survive ahead of Joe and Debbie.
NOAH: Liz is still in the alliance but she is now starting to get on peoples nerves, namely annoying Joe the most. She also looks like she is having a rough time out there too. Liz has received a decent amount of airtime so far which is a good sign for her but overall definitely a performance drop for this week.
COLIN: Whether she’s right or Joe is right the fact remains Liz is playing a below average social game. Past seasons would lead me to believe that Joe would be on the outs, but the editing was very much split between Liz making her case for why Joe was an idiot and Joe making his case why Liz was an idiot. It could go either way. Neither made a splash this week.
JARROD: A major drop for Liz this week after her argument with Joe and Debbie over the water. It feels like she may be getting too much screentime to be an early boot but I’d expect her name to come up at least a few times at tribal if the Brains lose.
5th – Debbie
OVERALL: 14th (+3)
BEN RANK: 16th
NOAH RANK: 12th
COLIN RANK: 13th
JARROD RANK: 13th
BEN: She is certainly an interesting character that is for sure. Can she last? I don’t think she can.
NOAH: Debbie’s stock in the game may have gone up…slightly. Peter wants her in the game as his goat and ally as she is crazy and non-strategic. There is no doubt that she is annoying people though and the other people with Peter may not agree. Debbie could be around for a while but she won’t win the game.
COLIN: Just because she can suck at Survivor doesn’t mean everyone can. If Peter has his way she will continue to suck for many weeks to come. This is an epic goat in the making.
JARROD: Debbie continues to cook her own goose but Peter’s willingness to keep her around coupled with the Joe/Liz feud may just be her saving grace.
6th – Joe
OVERALL: 15th (-1)
BEN RANK: 15th
NOAH RANK: 15th
COLIN RANK: 15th
JARROD RANK: 15th
BEN: I really like Joe and I really hope that next week somehow he and Debbie can work something out together to stay in the game. Sadly however I don’t think that will be the case.
NOAH: I love grumpy Joe but it probably isn’t doing him much good in the game. He has survival knowledge but is one of the weaker members of the tribe and is making enemies with Liz. With Peter now wanting Debbie to stick around, Joe’s time in the game could be cut very short.
COLIN: While I don’t think either Joe or Liz were in the wrong in their feud, the feud is all bad for Joe. I’d wager that someone like Peter would be more likely to side with Joe and Debbie for reasons he made clear this week, I’m not sensing Joe as a particularly strong strategic thinker, if he’s considering or caring about that part of the game at all.
JARROD: Not a whole lot has changed for Joe this week and while we have people wanting to keep Debbie around, Joe was berated for wasting the kerosene. There’s no love lost between him and Liz right now which could very well seal his fate if the “youngins” stick together.
TO TANG (BRAWN) RANKINGS
1st – Scot
OVERALL: 2nd (-)
BEN RANK: 8th
NOAH RANK: 1st
COLIN RANK: 2nd
JARROD RANK: 2nd
BEN: Did he vote for Alecia to split the votes to go either way or was there miscommunication? No matter what he still is going to be around for a bit.
NOAH: Scot didn’t vote for Jenny to go home but I don’t think that will be a hindrance on his game. So far he is the full package of social, strategic and physical. He is the only person on Brawns who hasn’t been targeted so far besides Cydney. He seems to have bond with everyone, performed well in the challenge and if Brawn lose again he probably won’t be going home. I am still not sure if he can win based off his past profession but so far Scot is playing a strong game.
COLIN: He looks to be in a solid alliance but he voted separately from them. Maybe they don’t care about that yet, but it’s enough to knock some points off for him as far as I’m concerned.
JARROD: While Jason may be starting to rub people the wrong way, Scot is seemingly well liked by everybody and he looks to be firmly in a position of power on the Brawn tribe at this point in time.
2nd – Jason
OVERALL: 4th (-1)
BEN RANK: 7th
NOAH RANK: 3rd
COLIN RANK: 4th
JARROD RANK: 5th
BEN: Jason/Kyle is an interesting character for sure, and has so many different potential outcomes as to what could happen with him in this game. Right now though, he is top dog on a tribe that can’t win. So he should at least make it to a switch and then we’ll really be able to gauge where he is at in the game.
NOAH: Jason is in a good position in his tribe. He has a close alliance with Scot and is in with Cydney. He is one of the strongest members on the tribe and is thinking strategically. He can’t be first at the moment though as he was targeted this week and was shown as annoying to others and still quite abrasive towards Blondie. I see Jason sticking around for the immediate future but could become a huge target down the line.
COLIN: He’s so hardcore on voting out and tearing down Alecia that he’s quickly losing sight of the game. It’s probably too early to tell, but I don’t see him going far. Even if he does make it to the end we’re already seeing the seeds planted that his mouth will get him into trouble. On the positive side his alliance looks as solid as it gets.
JARROD: Despite receiving some fairly negative airtime this week, things ultimately worked out for Jason. It looks like him and Scot are tight and I still can’t see Cydney and Alecia working together at this point in time.
3rd – Cydney
OVERALL: =8th (+4)
BEN RANK: 6th
NOAH RANK: 9th
COLIN RANK: 3rd
JARROD RANK: 11th
BEN: Kept out of trouble, stayed silent and voted in the majority. She keeps doing that she’ll be in the game for a long time to come.
NOAH: Cydney is a strong member of the Brawns tribe and is always a part of the alliance. She is in tight with Scot and Jason but was also in the talks for the women’s alliance. She is strong and social but she remains down low based on her minimalist edit. If her edit doesn’t increase she will probably end up being a lacklustre vote out down the line.
COLIN: I’m going to call it. Cydney has way more power than we’ve been lead to believe. She took no heat whatsoever for this possible flip. Alecia took heat, Jenny took heat. The only way this female alliance would have ever worked is if Cydney were in on it. Why was all the heat thrown at the other women? It’s probably because Cydney is firmly planted in the alliance with Jason and Scot.
JARROD: It seems everybody Cydney is close to gets voted out in this game. Obviously loyalty is important for the Brawn group and Cydney has done well to prove her worth but with Alecia still in the game who knows what could happen.
4th – Alecia
OVERALL: 16th (-)
BEN RANK: 14th
NOAH RANK: 16th
COLIN RANK: 16th
JARROD RANK: 16th
BEN: Survives again, barely. But where to for brawn should they lose again? She has to be the next to go if that happens next week.
NOAH: She made fire and survived a lucky break but Alecia is hands down on the bottom of the tribe. If she survives to a tribe swap then I will absolutely see her rank go up and perhaps her talking about sliding through the merge is foreshadowing. Scot and Jason are tight and Cydney will have to do something crazy for Alecia to survive yet again.
COLIN: The fact that Alecia is not that bright when it comes to the game may actually be her strength so far, and I’m not just saying that because she isn’t being perceived as a threat. Look at how tribal went down. The vote was switched simply because Alecia was more believable than Jenny was. Nobody would expect someone as clueless as Alecia to pull a fast one on them, and as long as she remains believable in her stories, she could use that to her advantage. Sadly I don’t give her enough credit to exploit that.
JARROD: Once again she survives the vote but we’re not seeing her forge any long term connections and she’s stuck around purely because of other people’s mistakes. It could definitely be third time unlucky if Brawn lose again.
GONDOL (BEAUTY) RANKINGS
1st – Anna
OVERALL: 3rd (-2)
BEN RANK: 2nd
NOAH RANK: 7th
COLIN RANK: 5th
JARROD RANK: 4th
BEN: Barely saw her, but the beauty tribe is in such a strong position right now and I still see her as the frontrunner of the tribe.
NOAH: Wow what a big fall from Anna who had the most confessionals after episode one and was being set up as a major player. Not to worry though, people like Carolyn and Keith had a similar pattern and both made it to the final episode. There is no way I can put a non-existent player in the top five for the week but we can only assume she is still in the majority women’s alliance and that we will see some more of her when it becomes more relevant to show her.
COLIN: Some residual points remain from her memorable intro last week. This week she was non-existent. It’s impossible to rank Beauty properly until they lose, but I guess they’re winning a lot which counts for something.
JARROD: After last weeks stand out episode, Anna disappeared big time but there’s nothing to suggest that she’s in danger or that the girls majority alliance has shifted at all.
2nd – Michele
OVERALL: 5th (+2)
BEN RANK: 3rd
NOAH RANK: 4th
COLIN RANK: 8th
JARROD RANK: 7th
BEN: Moves up based purely that we saw more of her than Julia. Still in a strong position.
NOAH: Michele didn’t do anything amazing this week but she did receive the most airtime out of the three girls so she makes it the highest out of them all. It is as simple as that.
COLIN: All the talk of the woman’s alliance from last week disappeared in episode 2. Since we heard no other talk to replace it I would assume that’s still the most likely option on the beauty tribe.
JARROD: Michele was the most prominent Beauty female this week and she’s racking up a nice chunk of airtime. She shouldn’t be in trouble anytime soon.
3rd – Julia
OVERALL: =6th (-)
BEN RANK: 4th
NOAH RANK: 5th
COLIN RANK: 7th
JARROD RANK: 8th
BEN: Keeping her head strong and is in a very strong alliance. Will go very far in this game.
NOAH: Julia is above Anna simply because she received some air time. She is assumingly still in the majority with the three women. Until they go to tribal council we probably won’t know for sure.
COLIN: The Beauty tribe are performing well in challenges, which is all that can really be said for them. Other than Tai nobody has been setup as an obvious target yet. If we don’t start seeing more of her soon I might get worried.
JARROD: An important cog in the girls’ alliance and still being shown here and there.
4th – Caleb
OVERALL: =8th (+2)
BEN RANK: 5th
NOAH RANK: 8th
COLIN RANK: 10th
JARROD RANK: 6th
BEN: Getting a strong edit and seems to be very popular. Outside of that however there isn’t a whole lot to go off. Will go far right now based purely on the beauty tribe being so dominant.
NOAH: Caleb seems to be bonding well with the entire tribe. He has the potential to go with the three girls and could also start an easy alliance with Tai, if his girlfriend approves. Along with Nick, Caleb is the strongest person on the tribe which makes him even more of an asset.
COLIN: He’s showing the social skills to adapt, but we’ve yet to have a concrete alliance form either with or without him. Beauty will have to lose to give us an idea where loyalties stand. I’m predicting Tai brings him in on the idol clue.
JARROD: Caleb continues to be shown in a positive light and he’s a real force for Beauty in the challenges. He’s connected with everybody on the tribe and his bromance with Tai could definitely bloom into an alliance if need be.
5th – Tai
OVERALL: 10th (+5)
BEN RANK: 13th
NOAH RANK: 10th
COLIN RANK: 9th
JARROD RANK: 12th
BEN: Getting a lot from Tai, he seems to be slowly more accepted by the tribe and is close to getting the idol. But having said that, if beauty lose (which I doubt they will) he is gone.
NOAH: Tai has had a bit of an increase this week. He knows where the idol is and if he can just get to it he can save himself if he really is still on the bottom. He is also creating a bond with Caleb who could be a powerful duo going forward. He could hide behind Caleb’s strength and make it far. He also seems to be bonding well with the rest of the tribe. Still down low but Tai is definitely on the rise.
COLIN: Back to back episodes have been setting up Tai, and Tai alone, on the idol hunt. We also saw the setup of his bond with Caleb. I’m predicting Tai brings Caleb in on his idol hunt, giving him a solid ally and an idol. This is all a prediction though, so I won’t jump the gun of ranking him too high.
JARROD: It feels like Tai has started to regain the ground he lost last week. He’s forming a great relationship with Caleb, is trying to connect socially with the tribe and has an idol in his sights.
6th – Nick
OVERALL: =11th (-)
BEN RANK: 12th
NOAH RANK: 13th
COLIN RANK: 11th
JARROD RANK: 10th
BEN: Sad that we didn’t see Nick this episode, and that means that despite the beauty tribe being in control I have to put him lower this week. Pick up the editing CBS!
NOAH: Nick wasn’t in this episode. Episode one he wasn’t involved in the strategy, this week he wasn’t involved period. I see Nick as a kind of insignificant middle player such as Jeremiah. Time will tell.
COLIN: Same as the others on the Beauty tribe. Ranking is difficult with the tribe taking the back seat in the screen time department. Challenge win boosts Nick up.
JARROD: You could be forgiven for thinking he’d already been voted out. Nowhere to be seen this week but that may simply suggest Beauty aren’t going to be in trouble anytime soon.
