For the 32nd season of Kaoh Rong we will be once again bringing you our weekly POWER RANKINGS as Noah is joined by Ozlets Colin, Ivan & Jarrod to rank the contestants each week based on performance and strategy and where they are perceived to be in the game! We continue our rankings for another week with our episode 4 rankings, which we are sure will cause speculation and debate as we get closer to next weeks episode!
HOW THE RANKINGS ARE CALCULATED
Each week Noah, Colin, Ivan & Jarrod will rank the remaining contestants based on their opinion of where they stand in the game, with the four totals being tallied to produce a total score. The lowest total score will be ranked at the top, with the second lowest in second, third lowest in third and so on and so forth. Each week the overall list will be published, separated into three tribes. It will combine into one list once the tribes merge (or two should there be a tribe dissolve).
Once again during Kaoh Rong we will be scoring who gets the closest each week with the POWER RANKINGS LEADERBOARD! The ranker who gets closest in predicting the previous weeks eliminated contestant will score a point. If they predict the exact finishing position then they will score 2 points. If there are two or more rankers on the same prediction/number, they will both get the said points amount. Here is the leaderboard after this weeks episode:
|1st||Colin Hilding||2 (+1)|
|=||Jarrod Loobeek||2 (+1)|
|=||Ivan Ornelas||2 (+2)|
|4th||Noah Groves||1 (+1)|
CHAN LOH (BRAINS) RANKINGS
1st – Debbie
OVERALL: =1st (+3)
NOAH RANK: 1st
COLIN RANK: 2nd
IVAN RANK: 1st
JARROD RANK: 6th
NOAH: There is no clear number one after this strange episode, so it looks like Debbie will become the de facto top dog again. She was one of the more prominent people shown in an episode where most people weren’t. We saw her trying to win back Peter by spinning the Liz vote as way of saving him. We also saw some character moments as Debbie had a confessional about her children and wanting to appear strong. So far Debbie has been portrayed as a comical kook character, a strategic thinker and an emotional, multi layered person. Could Debbie actually be the winner of this season!?
COLIN: I was worried for her when the heat exhaustion kicked in. It was looking like one of the biggest players would be taken out so soon after her rise to the top. I’m happy she made it through. She has at least one person opposing her going forward, which is the only reason I hold her back from my #1 spot.
IVAN: It would have been tragic for her to be evacuated. Like Caleb and Cydney, Debbie had received her fair portion of airtime but since she didn’t need to leave the game, we will likely be seeing a lot more of her. I like her odds going into a tribe swap. Even if she remains on a tribe with Peter, I feel like she may come off as odd but non threatening to her new tribe mates, and she can find her way from there.
JARROD: Despite the immunity challenge puzzle not laying down for her like a lover, Debbie continues to move up the rankings and she’s fast becoming one of my favourite players this season. It’s hard to say how her antics will be received by her new tribemates but it’s likely she’ll be underestimated and barring a terrible swap she should have some Brain tribe allies to work with.
2nd – Neal
OVERALL: =6th (+3)
NOAH RANK: 6th
COLIN RANK: 4th
IVAN RANK: 8th
JARROD RANK: 9th
NOAH: Neal was initially targeted but has worked his way into the four person alliance. He isn’t the most over the top character but has received a decent amount of air time. The swap/merge could be dangerous however if Peter wants to seek out revenge for Liz. Neal is physical enough to get by while also being able to fly under the radar.
COLIN: It’s hard to rank this week as the majority of the episode revolved around the challenge and medivac situation. It makes it even harder to rank someone as quiet as Neal, so I’ll stick to last week’s opinion. He’s the next most likely to control the Brains, and Debbie will keep a huge target on her, which in return keeps Neal safe.
IVAN: We definitely have to see more of Neal. He’s not being ignored but he merits a bit more focus than he’s been receiving. I feel like this swap will define his legacy this season. If he clicks with his new tribemates he could form some interesting alliances. Out of all the former Brains, he needs to avoid being swapped with Peter the most.
JARROD: Neal seems like the type of savvy player able to navigate a swap. His tribemates have saved him once before and I could see them rallying to do so again.
3rd – Aubry
OVERALL: 10th (-1)
NOAH RANK: 12th
COLIN RANK: 12th
IVAN RANK: 5th
JARROD RANK: 8th
NOAH: Aubry is in the majority alliance of Brains which is good for her but at this point we have only really seen one thing from her and that was her feeling sick/overwhelmed. It is unlikely that Aubry is going to burst as a character from this point onwards. Aubry won’t win this game.
COLIN: Her position was improved last week with her selecting the right alliance to go forward with. The down side is that Aubry still has no power over the game, and I don’t see that changing.
IVAN: She hasn’t had quite as strong of a focus as Debbie has but she has played well thus far. I feel like she can go under the radar because she’s pulling her weight in the challenges but she isn’t as physically intimidating as other players. The hardest part for her will come later in the game, but for now at least she’s in a good spot.
JARROD: She remains fairly invisible in the confessional department but that wasn’t a terrible thing this past episode given the amount of screentime that was dedicated to the medevac and Brawn tribe. Good connections with her Brainy pals and doesn’t seem like the type of player typically targeted in the wake of a swap.
4th – Joe
OVERALL: 11th (+1)
NOAH RANK: 8th
COLIN RANK: 10th
IVAN RANK: 11th
JARROD RANK: 10th
NOAH: Joe is in the majority alliance and has a close ally with Debbie. He seems to be a hard worker and well liked member of the tribe with a small yet still present edit. A rough spot in the middle seems about right for him.
COLIN: Props for being the oldest guy out there (by far) and not suffering the physical effects of the challenge like many of the strongest did. Putting that aside there have been no seeds planted that he’s in control or even invested in the strategic portion of the game.
IVAN: From what we’ve seen so far, I’m not quite sure Joe can garner the momentum needed to create a winning story for himself. Especially as we enter the swap, you get a sense that he’ll be used as a number until he’s not needed anymore. He’s not someone you want to sit at the end with but he can be a 5th or 6th place finisher with little resistance.
JARROD: Joe was Debbie’s hero this past episode but it isn’t really clear where he stands in the game. He looked to be holding the Brains back during the initial physical portion of the reward challenge which could be a bad sign.
5th – Peter
OVERALL: 12th (+1)
NOAH RANK: 10th
COLIN RANK: 11th
IVAN RANK: 13th
JARROD RANK: 13th
NOAH: Peter is still in a bad position but it does seem now he is more self-aware of his cockiness and gameplay. Out of anyone in the game, the merge/swap will probably benefit Peter the most and could be the turning point in the game.
COLIN: So he’s looking ahead to a flip, which shows he’s ready to adapt. At the same time he seems to have learned nothing from his tribe’s reaction last week to his arrogance. There’s a good chance he’ll end up in the exact same position with a new alliance.
IVAN: Tribe swap came at a right time for him. Unless he pulls a Sierra Thomas, we can count on him flipping on the Brains tribe which is certain to produce some tension and make for an interesting Tribal Council should his tribe lose. The main concern for him is once you’re at the bottom of one tribe or alliance, it can be difficult to find your way to the top of another one. There’s a lot of game left to play though so he has time on his side.
JARROD: There are positives and negatives for Peter going into next week. The change up should flip him out of his position on the bottom of the Brains tribe and give him a whole lot more options moving forward but if the switch goes badly he stands out as a target and could very easily be thrown under the bus by one of his original tribemates.
TO TANG (BRAWN) RANKINGS
1st – Jason
OVERALL: 3rd (-)
NOAH RANK: 2nd
COLIN RANK: 6th
IVAN RANK: 3rd
JARROD RANK: 2nd
NOAH: Bullying aside, Jason is in a pretty good position in the game. He eliminated the one person who doesn’t like him and also the one person who is likely to blab about his idol. Now he can go into a swap/merge without a huge target on his back. He is solid with Scot and Cydney but can also became a valuable resource for someone else due to lack of numbers like the Matsing two or Luzon three. On top of all this he has had one of the biggest edits of the season so far.
COLIN: Past week’s have shown Jason to be more confrontational than Scot, more offensive than Scot, but at the same time more in tune with adapting in the game. Neither have a great chance on their own if a swap happens, but I give Jason a better chance at surviving to the merge.
IVAN: Things will only get tougher for him and Scot from here on out. Logic suggests it doesn’t matter how to treat pre-jury members because they won’t have a vote at Final Tribal Council, but according to Survivor history, people who are rude to pre-jury tend to be the same to the post jury players. I do think and hope that Kyle and Alecia just didn’t get along, because he wasn’t horrible to Jennifer or Darnell. The Brawn tribe suited his personality and gameplay, but now he’ll need to adapt. I’m sure he thinks he can but it’s not writing in the wall. I do like the possibility of an alliance between him and Tai not just because of their idols but because they are opposites in terms of personality.
JARROD: While Jason only has 2 tribemates left he has an idol in his pocket which should keep him safe during the unpredictability of next week. Plus, he was portrayed less negatively than Scot during the Alecia boot which is probably a plus.
2nd – Cydney
OVERALL: 5th (-4)
NOAH RANK: 5th
COLIN RANK: 3rd
IVAN RANK: 7th
JARROD RANK: 7th
NOAH: Cydney is hard to gauge as she does seem to be a good player with decent amount of airtime but she also hasn’t had anything substantial in her edit. We haven’t really seen anything personal or got to know her as much as other players. She is also number three to Jason and Scot which might not be an issue with the swap/merge but could end up being her downfall. I personally don’t think Cydney will win the game but it is a possibility.
COLIN: I’m more and more impressed by Cydney every week. She was just as on board with the Alecia boot as Jason and Scot were, even openly announcing there was no way the vote would change, yet Alecia wished her luck in the game. Cydney played a great social game with Alecia, and if she can do the same after the merge with a jury she could be the odds on favourite to win a final vote.
IVAN: This swap can definitely benefit Cydney because after voting out Alecia, she was at the end of her rope. There was no way Kyle or Scot were going to turn on each other, even if Kyle took care of her when she went down in the challenge. Not just because of her strength but because of her personality I can see her connecting with several people from the other tribes. The future could be bright for Cydney even going into a swap with few numbers and options, hopefully she can make the most of it.
JARROD: Cydney has been shown to be playing an impressive social game, even getting a nod from Alecia after she was unanimously voted out last episode. The Brawn group could definitely find themselves in power positions being the minority tribe and Cydney will no doubt put a lot of thought into her options.
3rd – Scot
OVERALL: 8th (-3)
NOAH RANK: 7th
COLIN RANK: 8th
IVAN RANK: 4th
JARROD RANK: 11th
NOAH: I feel like the merge/swap could be disastrous for Scot. While he was a valued member of the Brawn tribe, he is now going to be targeted as a physical threat and he certainly stands out amongst the cast. I suspect not everyone will be cool about his past profession as well. He could definitely make it work but it won’t be the easy ride he has had so far in the game.
COLIN: The chances of Jason and Scot winning raises slightly with Alecia finally gone, but I still maintain that they lack focus in this game.
IVAN: For the most part, Kyle and Scot have played similar games. They’ve worked together, made the same allies and enemies, and have similar personalities. It would be beneficial for these two to stay together after the swap, but I wouldn’t mind seeing them on different tribes. That being said, Scot has done enough in this game to confirm himself as a decent player in his own right. His social game could use some work, but his understanding of the strategic game isn’t bad. He has potential but Cliff Robinson flashbacks aside he could be prone to the post swap pitfall.
JARROD: Scot had a negative showing the past episode and was highlighted as a bully towards Alecia. Diminished tribes have traditionally done well when the tribes change on three tribe seasons so that history suggests Scot could excel post swap. It’ll be interesting to see if he clashes with the more eccentric characters left in the game.
GONDOL (BEAUTY) RANKINGS
1st – Anna
OVERALL: =1st (-)
NOAH RANK: 4th
COLIN RANK: 1st
IVAN RANK: 2nd
JARROD RANK: 3rd
NOAH: Perhaps this is a bit too high for Anna but she is the most prominent of the Beauty girl’s alliance. The tribe as a whole has been pretty non-existent outside of Tai but I suspect we will see a lot more of Anna after the swap/merge. She could be an early jury member or she could go very deep but I do think she is being set up as a strategic player.
COLIN: The only thing that has changed Anna’s game is the loss of Caleb, who was a potential fourth ally for her. I say potential, because he was never locked in, nor would a fourth member be absolutely necessary anymore. So I’ll restate. Nothing has changed Anna’s game this week.
IVAN: As the de facto leader of the only remaining alliance on this tribe (if you considered Tai and Caleb’s bromance as an alliance), she’s done well so far. She’ll be tested again with this tribe swap, but unlike her almost look alike counterpart Liz, I feel like Anna will not over strategize and she’ll find a way to keep herself in a good position.
JARROD: The girls’ alliance is being referenced constantly so one would think that it’s going to come into play at some point in the game and as the leader of that faction Anna should be around for a while.
2nd – Tai
OVERALL: 4th (+2)
NOAH RANK: 3rd
COLIN RANK: 7th
IVAN RANK: 6th
JARROD RANK: 1st
NOAH: Tai is not a part of the main Beauty alliance but he has received such a dominant edit that I can’t see him going home if it is a tribe swap. If it is a merge I still don’t think he will be one of the first out. He definitely doesn’t stand out as a dominant threat early on in a merge and he also has an idol that no one knows about. On top of this the Beauty girls may incorporate him into the alliance now that Caleb is gone from the game.
COLIN: His stock takes a bit of a hit with his closest tribe mate leaving. They were never officially aligned that we know of, and Beauty are still unbeaten, but we haven’t been shown any other bonds to give him numbers going forward.
IVAN: I don’t think Tai was in immediate danger even if Beauty lost again, but a swap can definitely help him. Part of me wants him to try hard strategically to set himself up for victory but it could backfire right after a swap, so it could be best for him to lay low and just slide right into an alliance that works for him. If he and Kyle are on the same tribe, imagine the possibilities.
JARROD: Going into what looks like a swap anything at all could happen but the Beauty tribe has 5 members so they’ve got a good chance of winding up together. Tai has brought up not going home with the idol in his pocket twice now so I think it’s safe to say he’ll use it if he feels in trouble.
3rd – Michele
OVERALL: =6th (+2)
NOAH RANK: 9th
COLIN RANK: 5th
IVAN RANK: 9th
JARROD RANK: 4th
NOAH: She is the same as Julia except she has received a tad bit more of an edit. Michele will not win this game.
COLIN: Her alliance may have lost a potential 4th member with Caleb leaving, but they officially have a majority with him leaving, so they came out on top regardless.
IVAN: I’m just hoping this swap allows Michele to get more screentime and become a force in this season instead of just a pawn.
JARROD: Michele and Julia flip back and forth for me each week depending on who is more in the spotlight. From what we’ve seen the Beauty girls are no slouches at forming quick connections to create a solid alliance which should serve them well in next weeks shake up.
4th – Julia
OVERALL: 9th (-2)
NOAH RANK: 11th
COLIN RANK: 9th
IVAN RANK: 10th
JARROD RANK: 5th
NOAH: She is a key player in the Beauty alliance but so far they haven’t been put to the tribal council test and the merge/swap is looming. Her edit is also probably the most low-key out of anyone at this point. Julia won’t win this game.
COLIN: Still in a solid majority alliance, still not relevant on screen.
IVAN: Even Spencer Duhm had more screentime so far when considering previous young players in Survivor history, so I wonder what’s going on with Julia. Hopefully we can start to find out next episode.
JARROD: Not a whole lot of screentime but that can be said for a lot of people this episode. No evidence to suggest she’ll be targeted at this point in time.
5th – Nick
OVERALL: 13th (-)
NOAH RANK: 13th
COLIN RANK: 13th
IVAN RANK: 12th
JARROD RANK: 12th
NOAH: The merge/swap could save him but at this point Nick has a near non-existent edit and is constantly being talked of as a threat to vote out. Nick won’t win this game.
IVAN: He failed the first test in the social portion of the game, but can he find a reprise in the swap? If he stands any chance of winning or even doing well in this game he’ll need to. If he strikes out again in finding an alliance, he’s an easy target after the merge if not sooner.
JARROD: We continue to get nothing from Nick except that he stepped up for the Beauty tribe in the immunity challenge. He seems like the type of guy who could bro done with the other alpha guys but so far he’s been an underwhelming character this season.
