For the 32nd season of Kaoh Rong we will be once again bringing you our weekly POWER RANKINGS as Noah is joined by Ozlets Colin, Ivan & Jarrod to rank the contestants each week based on performance and strategy and where they are perceived to be in the game! We continue our rankings for another week with our episode 5 rankings, which we are sure will cause speculation and debate as we get closer to next weeks episode!
HOW THE RANKINGS ARE CALCULATED
Each week Noah, Colin, Ivan & Jarrod will rank the remaining contestants based on their opinion of where they stand in the game, with the four totals being tallied to produce a total score. The lowest total score will be ranked at the top, with the second lowest in second, third lowest in third and so on and so forth. Each week the overall list will be published, separated into two tribes. It will combine into one list once the tribes merge (or two should there be a tribe dissolve).
Once again during Kaoh Rong we will be scoring who gets the closest each week with the POWER RANKINGS LEADERBOARD! The ranker who gets closest in predicting the previous weeks eliminated contestant will score a point. If they predict the exact finishing position then they will score 2 points. If there are two or more rankers on the same prediction/number, they will both get the said points amount. Here is the leaderboard after this weeks episode:
|=||Noah Groves||2 (+1)|
=1st – Cydney
OVERALL: =1st (+4)
NOAH RANK: 3rd
COLIN RANK: 2nd
IVAN RANK: 6th
JARROD RANK: 2nd
NOAH: Things are looking good for Cydney. Debbie wants to work with her and she is hiding that she had a top education. Debbie’s comment about wanting a woman to win could also be foreshadowing for her. At this point Cydney is pretty much a lock for the merge and when she is there she has a range of different options.
COLIN: Nobody out there has there head in the game more than Cydney, and nobody has the patience and long term thinking that she has. The only thing that holds her back from being on top for me is the lack of numbers. I don’t even think that hurts it, it’s just not as much of an advantage as my #1 has.
IVAN: This swap definitely gives Cydney a chance to increase her gameplay having reached the end of her rope at To Tang. An alliance between her and Debbie, and possibly Michele for a full female alliance, definitely would be interesting. We’ll have to wait until Tribal Council to see where Cydney’s path leads in this game, but she’s got options.
JARROD: In a power position with Jason and is loved by Debbie. Has played a really solid game so far and bar catastrophe she should make the merge.
=1st – Debbie
OVERALL: =1st (-)
NOAH RANK: 1st
COLIN RANK: 1st
IVAN RANK: 3rd
JARROD RANK: 8th
NOAH: Debbie stays at the top for another week. The edit is going out of its way to show Debbie as one of the most strategic players on the season. She did a perfect job of buttering up to Cydney and convincing her and Jason to join with the brains. It seems next week she could also be using her charm on Nick. Debbie is strategic but her ‘crazy’ personality may enable her to be underestimated and make it deep into the game. Her comment about wanting a woman to win could also be foreshadowing for her or one of the other females eventually winning the game.
COLIN: She had a slightly arrogant statement, which does little to damage her in my mind, seeing as she’s in a game with Peter. On top of that Debbie has proven she can back up her arrogance. She made the right alliance this week with the right people.
IVAN: She’s approaching this situation similarly to how she did on her original tribe. Considering how that worked out, I expect her to do well here too. Due to the distribution of tribe members, it could still go either way, especially since there’s still five brain members left with an approaching merge, so that might upset her chances
JARROD: She’s playing a really aggressive game and I hope it pays off. We saw some good content between her and Cydney where she was referred to as a mother figure. I hope the Brawn side with the Brains but given the overall numbers I could see them going with the Beauties and splitting the vote which could spell doom for Debbie.
3rd – Neal
OVERALL: 3rd (+3)
NOAH RANK: 4th
COLIN RANK: 3rd
IVAN RANK: 4th
JARROD RANK: 4th
NOAH: Neal rises a bit this week for finding the Brain’s tribe idol. He has a close connection with Debbie and seems to be in with the Brawn’s to create a new four. However if Brawn’s decided to go to Beauty then Neal could be targeted before the merge to eliminate a physical threat. Although it could be argued that Debbie is equal in terms of challenge threats.
COLIN: With that idol he’s now one of the front runners. At the moment there is no real target on Neal’s back, and he’s proven to be very forward thinking, and not terribly impulsive. These qualities will help him going forward. With a lot of talk about the combining of idols this week I have a feeling that will happen before the end of the season. I doubt Neal will be part of that, though.
IVAN: He has a Hidden Immunity Idol, and I get a good feeling about him at this point of the game. He’s getting airtime but he’s not being exactly forced upon us like Tai and Kyle feel at times. He reminds me of Dave Ball. People always say Dave would be a great character on a Russell less season, so I hope his spirit lives on in Neal. And right now I’d say Neal has a good chance to go far.
JARROD: While Debbie seems to be the more aggressive Brain on Chanloh, Neal’s laid back approach seems to be working well. If he’s uncertainty of which side the Brawn will side with he has an idol just in case.
4th – Jason
OVERALL: 4th (-1)
NOAH RANK: 5th
COLIN RANK: 6th
IVAN RANK: 5th
JARROD RANK: 1st
NOAH: Everyone wants to work with Jason and Cydney on the new tribe. Unless the Beauty and Brains end up working together then he has an almost guaranteed path to the merge. He has an idol in his back pocket and with Alecia gone it doesn’t seem like he is pissing anyone off.
COLIN: Of the remaining Brawns he has the worst chance at winning, despite having an idol. Cydney is in control of his game, and Scot is working a lot harder on the other side. In fact it’s Scot and Cydney’s game this week that lead me to rank him higher than I otherwise would. He’s protected on the new Chan Loh, and Scot worked hard to convince Tai to save his idol to combine later on, obviously with the one in Jason’s pocket. I have a feeling something will come of that, I’m just not sure it will help Jason’s chances of winning.
IVAN: He’s in the swing vote position for now, but he might need that idol if an alliance between Debbie and Nick really is on the cards. Best case scenario for him is that he can take out a Brain and a merge at 11 follows and then Brawn would be the swing votes. Furthermore, Kyle could potentially get that super idol. I know Alecia fans will be hoping that doesn’t happen.
JARROD: The Brawn pair have the power on the Chanloh tribe and we saw Jason being offered deals from both Debbie and Nick. Add the idol on top of that and Jason shouldn’t be going anywhere next week.
5th – Michele
OVERALL: =9th (-3)
NOAH RANK: 7th
COLIN RANK: 9th
IVAN RANK: 10th
JARROD RANK: 10th
NOAH: Michele is starting to receive a bit more airtime but she is still isn’t a prominent figure. At this point she will probably make the merge but will have to reposition herself after losing Anna and not reuniting with Julia. She isn’t particularly close with Nick. All this could make her a valuable number for other people or could see her fall by the way side.
COLIN: I think it’s safe to say Michele is still in a fair bit of trouble. Anna’s move a few weeks ago to draw the line in the sand seemed smart at the time, but it single handedly cost Michele and Julia a shot in this game. If Anna had worried more about keeping a loyal tribe as a whole there may have been more of a possibility of the remaining Beauties working together. She had no relationship with Nick, so chances of the them working together is pretty slim. I would give her the best chance out of the remaining Beauty members, next to Tai that is.
IVAN: She and Julia will both be hurt by Anna’s elimination (except screen time wise, hopefully). If it’s a battle of the pairs, Michelle is the easier target if Beauty is on the chopping block. However, like I said Anna’s elimination could shift the focus to the Brains members. As things stand right now, I’m not sure, but we’ll see next episode.
JARROD: She got plenty of screentime about the Beauty girls being split up but we didn’t see her connecting with anybody on her new tribe in the episode.
6th – Nick
OVERALL: 11th (+2)
NOAH RANK: 11th
COLIN RANK: 12th
IVAN RANK: 8th
JARROD RANK: 9th
NOAH: This swap could be a saving grace for Nick but we continue week to week to get nothing substantial out of him. We get a strategy confessional or a failed attempt to be a villain here and there but we aren’t getting to know him. Michele and he aren’t particularly close either. I will be very surprised if Nick wins this season.
COLIN: Nothing much has changed, just the players around him. Still in trouble, still has nobody around him to work with or protect him. I can’t see any of the remaining Beauties to work together, and Nick will be a target for physical strength very soon.
IVAN: Right now I feel like Peter, the qualities Nick had that isolated him from the Beauty tribe may come into play to some extent in this new tribe. On the other hand, he does have some offers and Anna’s elimination may help Beauty should Chan Loh lose the next challenge because they may be tempted to vote out a Brain to ensure it’s 4-4-3 assuming a merge of 11. We’ve seen players before who seemed like a sitting duck on their original tribe make a swap and then play well, could Nick join that group?
JARROD: Nick has finally become visible again. Is this just in time for his boot episode or is he coming into his own? We saw him pursuing an alliance with Jason which could be his saving grace. Not in a great position but still probably a better one than he was pre-swap.
1st – Scot
OVERALL: 5th (+3)
NOAH RANK: 2nd
COLIN RANK: 4th
IVAN RANK: 9th
JARROD RANK: 3rd
NOAH: I am sceptical if Scot can win this game just based on his past profession but that doesn’t excuse having a good week in the meantime. Scot is the only one in the game who knows the whereabouts of two of the three hidden immunity idols. This is incredibly valuable information given the super idol twist of the season. He was also brought in as a number four with the brains and given Peter is annoying people and Julia has the Beauty target, he should be good until the merge. Things worked out perfectly for Scot this week.
COLIN: I hold to the opinion (as unpopular as it might be) that there was just something about Alecia that rubbed people the wrong way, because we saw an entirely different Scot this week. He worked magic on Tai, convincing him to hold onto the idol. That was very forward thinking, because Scot wasn’t even in jeopardy this week. He still has Cydney and Jason to go back to, and with Tai all but added as a fourth member, not to mention Brains on both tribes now trusting them, it’s not unrealistic to think that a Brawn could win this game.
IVAN: He’s not in any position of power, but it’s very unlikely to be in one when your tribe enters a swap with three members. Scot is playing his role perfectly: doing what makes the most sense, not causing any waves, and setting himself up to make bigger moves when the merge hits. His alliance with Tai could be a key one. Could he be the wingman that fuses two idols together? Possibly.
JARROD: Despite being separated from his tribe mates, Scot navigated the swap well and has worked himself into a solid position. He’s struck up a useful friendship with Tai and he could go with either the Brains or the former Beauty players should Gondol lose the next challenge.
2nd – Aubry
OVERALL: 6th (+4)
NOAH RANK: 9th
COLIN RANK: 8th
IVAN RANK: 1st
JARROD RANK: 6th
NOAH: Aubry has Joe on her side but she really hasn’t made any impact apart from her brief meltdown in episode one. It seems the editors aren’t overly fascinated with her story and that she is probably going to be an insignificant character. I predict a merge boot from her, if not her being another medivac.
COLIN: Nice to see that she has some life for the first time since episode one. I still have yet to see any seeds planted for her as a potential winner. She definitely deserves a bump this week as she’s valuable as a number and close enough to those in power to matter.
IVAN: She played her position perfectly. The tribe swap was kind to her, but she wasn’t bossing people around in order to set her plan in motion. She did what she needed to do to keep the power with the Brains. If Gondol loses again, it will be interesting to see whether Aubry targets, Peter, Tai, or Julia next. The decision she makes could have strong implications for how she does later on.
JARROD: She doesn’t trust Peter but she seems to be doing a good job of keeping that distrust to herself. Alongside Joe she appears to be calling to shots on Gondol but who knows how long that will last for.
3rd – Joe
OVERALL: 7th (+4)
NOAH RANK: 10th
COLIN RANK: 7th
IVAN RANK: 2nd
JARROD RANK: 7th
NOAH: Joe has been a pretty non-existent character in this season and despite having a strong alliance with Aubry, it is clear he won’t make a big impact on the game. Not to mention he is now losing trust in Peter if next week’s preview can be believed. I also now suspect he will be a second medivac with the medical foreshadowing.
COLIN: All this time I was assuming he was a pawn of Debbie. This week we saw real game play talk from Joe, and he seemed to know what he was doing too. A well-deserved bump.
IVAN: We got to see Joe get more involved in this strategic sequence heading into Tribal Council, as opposed to in the first one where Joe was fairly invisible in the proceedings. Though there are a few players ahead of him getting more focus, I don’t think it’s too late for him to be in consideration as a winner even though he seems like a likely boot just before the Final Tribal Council. Like Aubry, the next vote could be a crucial one for his game should Gondol lose.
JARROD: In the dominant Brains alliance on Gondol. Looks like there could be some tension brewing between him and Peter next week but as things currently stand he seems to be in a solid position.
4th – Tai
OVERALL: 8th (-4)
NOAH RANK: 6th
COLIN RANK: 5th
IVAN RANK: 11th
JARROD RANK: 5th
NOAH: Telling other people you have an idol seems to have paid off for a change with Tai. Now Scot wants to keep him around to leverage Tai and Jason’s idol in an attempt to create the super idol. I would be blindsided if Tai doesn’t make the merge at this point. Once he is there he can perhaps fly underneath the radar while all the stronger men become targets. People probably won’t let him get to the finals but he still has a lot of game in him yet.
COLIN: I have a feeling this is one of those moves people will debate forever, but I firmly believe using the idol this week would have been an idiotic move. Tai wasn’t in any threat of being voted out, it was Anna who was the target, and she showed no interest in working with him in the past. Tai’s position in this game would have improved simply by having her out, and I believe it has improved, with or without an idol in his pocket.
IVAN: It would’ve made more sense for Tai to use his idol, blindside Peter, and let Julia come into the tribe to give a Beauty majority, but for a long term game plan what actually happened isn’t bad either. He still has his idol, but he seems very nervous about it. His alliance with Scot may help him a bit with that, but Tai is still in a precarious situation.
JARROD: He’s got Scot looking out for him in order to set up a super idol later in the game, which should keep him safe if the Brains come after him at the next vote.
5th – Peter
OVERALL: =9th (+3)
NOAH RANK: 8th
COLIN RANK: 10th
IVAN RANK: 7th
JARROD RANK: 11th
NOAH: Even after the switch Peter is still annoying just about everyone in the game. Honestly I could see him being blindsided next week although Aubry was intent on keeping the brains strong. He is an asset in challenges but we are getting very close to a merge which then shifts to him be a threat in challenges. While he probably won’t win, he is one of the major characters of the season which could mean he still has a bit of life left in him.
COLIN: This guy never learns. He dodged a bullet two tribal councils in a row. I doubt he’ll have a third chance.
IVAN: There will certainly be temptation to vote Peter out if Gondol lose again. The biggest reason to do that aside from Peter’s isolation in the original Brains tribe would be because if Brains go into an 11 player merge with 5 members left, then everyone else might be more inclined to form a majority of 6 against the brains. You get a sense Peter’s downfall is on his way, having received votes at both Tribals he’s been to so far. His position seems solid for now though.
JARROD: Peter was nearly the boot this past episode and he continues to be shown as arrogant. Tai thinks that he’s cocky which may ruin any chance of him flipping on the Brains. Aubry and Joe don’t trust him and if the majority falls apart he could very well be the next casualty.
6th – Julia
OVERALL: 12th (-3)
NOAH RANK: 12th
COLIN RANK: 11th
IVAN RANK: 12th
JARROD RANK: 12th
NOAH: It is hard to rank Julia and I personally don’t think she is necessarily a shoe in to be voted out next but her position isn’t looking great. She will re-join the Gondol tribe and take Anna’s place as the sole beauty female. Scot wants Tai to stick around which puts a further target on Julia. On the flipside, a Peter blindside is certainly possible and gives her options.
COLIN: Being out of the game hurt her bad. Her entire tribe was the target, and her alliance leader took the bullet. A merge could help her, but she has hardly anyone left to align with. Look at how quickly a powerful tribe can fall apart.
IVAN: The question for Julia will be how tight is Tai with the Brains. The brains seem to have no qualms with Tai, so if Gondol loses the next challenge, Julia is the likely boot. The time is now for the youngest player in the game to show nerves of steel, which is not what teenagers are typically known for (takes one to know one, though I’m in my 20s now, wasn’t too long ago).
JARROD: Julia comes into Gondol as the minority and hasn’t had the same time to build relationships as the others. She could be a complete mimic of the Anna boot next episode.
