For the 32nd season of Kaoh Rong we will be once again bringing you our weekly POWER RANKINGS as Noah is joined by Ozlets Colin, Ivan & Jarrod to rank the contestants each week based on performance and strategy and where they are perceived to be in the game! We continue our rankings for another week with our episode 7 rankings, which we are sure will cause speculation and debate as we get closer to next weeks episode!
HOW THE RANKINGS ARE CALCULATED
Each week Noah, Colin, Ivan & Jarrod will rank the remaining contestants based on their opinion of where they stand in the game, with the four totals being tallied to produce a total score. The lowest total score will be ranked at the top, with the second lowest in second, third lowest in third and so on and so forth.
Once again during Kaoh Rong we will be scoring who gets the closest each week with the POWER RANKINGS LEADERBOARD! The ranker who gets closest in predicting the previous weeks eliminated contestant will score a point. If they predict the exact finishing position then they will score 2 points. If there are two or more rankers on the same prediction/number, they will both get the said points amount. Here is the leaderboard after this weeks episode:
|1st||Ivan Ornelas||4 (+2)|
1st – Nick
OVERALL: 1st (+10)
NOAH RANK: 1st
COLIN RANK: 1st
IVAN RANK: 1st
JARROD RANK: 2nd
NOAH: I, for one, do not think Nick will be the winner of Kaoh Rong. That being said, he did have a strong week. He doesn’t really have control or at the top of any alliance but he does have the power to go with the Brawn or the Beauty. He won the challenge, has a duo with Michele and both sides want him. Although if he doesn’t pick soon he could be gone ala Christy Smith.
COLIN: What an unusual edit Nick has received. Only a handful of moments in 6 episodes, all of which were negative, and now one episode of double digit confessionals. He seems to have a really solid grasp on the game. Nick has many potential options going forward, but the medevac made it impossible to know where he’s going. In any other week I’d hold Nick back from topping my rankings, but he’s the ONLY one who had a good week.
IVAN: Even though in my mind he could very much be a target as soon as next episode, as of the end of this current one he has found himself in a good position. Since Neal was evacuated, he gets a few more days without hurting any feelings or betraying anyone yet which could add to his supply of intel. How he uses said intel will have a huge bearing on his success in the game.
JARROD: Like Michele Nick has options open to him moving forward and Jason and Scot have really thrown their trust behind him. He now knows about Tai’s idol and has formed a working relationship with Aubry. His cockiness could undo him at some point but with other more brash characters around he should be safe for a while.
2nd – Tai
OVERALL: 2nd (+1)
NOAH RANK: 3rd
COLIN RANK: 2nd
IVAN RANK: 3rd
JARROD RANK: 3rd
NOAH: Everyone wants to work with him and he has an idol. Downside is, a lot of people know about it.
COLIN: The fact that his secret idol is being announced by his so called ally Scot is a bad thing. The fact that nobody was voted out this week is a good thing. The fact that it seems everyone but Tai was portrayed negatively is another good thing. The goods outweigh the negatives.
IVAN: Simply by being Tai, people want to work with him. I do see a Beauty and Brawn alliance being Tai’s best possible path to the end of the game, and it was definitely better for Tai’s game that he didn’t win that immunity challenge because he’ll be seen as a threat later and can do without seeming like a threat now. His options are a bit more limited than other players but those he does have seem to bode well for his longevity in the game.
JARROD: Everybody still wants to work with Tai at this point in time but news of his idol is spreading so he very well could be in danger sooner rather than later. His fate feels like it’s tied to Scot at this point in time and his passive gameplay could be his eventual undoing.
3rd – Michele
OVERALL: 3rd (+6)
NOAH RANK: 6th
COLIN RANK: 6th
IVAN RANK: 2nd
JARROD RANK: 1st
NOAH: She is in the majority alliance and has past relationships with Julia and Nick. Her edit is starting to gain some traction. Next week will be her first visit to tribal council.
COLIN: We saw no indication that she’s working with Julia, so their alliance was probably not as solid as Anna thought. She can’t stand Nick, the only guy who’s actually in an alliance with her, and Debbie has made an alliance with everyone out there, so you can’t count on that. Somehow Michele thinks she was in a good position in the game. At the end of the day people aren’t against working with her, and she’s not a target. No chance of winning but maybe a solid alliance vote to make it a few more weeks.
IVAN: She wasn’t as present in the double dealing as Nick was, but she’s just as much in a good position as him. Ultimately she decided for Nick that they would go with the Brawn, but even better for Michele is the lack of a Tribal Council. So in the eyes of everyone else, her allegiance is still in limbo and she could gain some more alliance offers and information leading up to the next Tribal Council.
JARROD: Michele’s edit has come along leaps and bounds in the past couple of weeks and she’s in a powerful position between the Brains and Brawn groups. While Nick seems to be putting in more of the work with the Brawn tribe, Michele was seen working closely with the Brain women and it’s getting to a point where she could almost form an all female alliance.
4th – Cydney
OVERALL: 4th (-2)
NOAH RANK: 2nd
COLIN RANK: 3rd
IVAN RANK: 7th
JARROD RANK: 5th
NOAH: She is laying low but is in the majority alliance. It also appears she is friends with most people in the game. She is a winner contender but if her edit doesn’t start to gain some traction in the next few episodes, I could be worried.
COLIN: She seems to have disappeared over the last few weeks, which either means she’s not on anyone’s radar to vote out, or not on anyone’s radar to work with. Her strongest allies Scot and Jason are rubbing people the wrong way. She’s shown in the past to be a great social player, so I’m still hopeful she works it out. And in an episode like this no edit is better than any edit.
IVAN: Michele and Julia are getting more airtime than her recently, but that looks set to change next episode. Cydney has done well to get this far but can she go above and beyond and make some moves? Or will she quietly reach the final 7 or 6 before being voted out? Right now I would say she’s headed towards the latter, or maybe a final 4 betrayal by Jason and/or Scot. She still has potential in this game but we could use a little more than that.
JARROD: Of the Brawn she’s definitely the most composed and least arrogant. Jason and Scot are going to be the big targets from that group, so provided she keeps up her strong social game she’s set to go far.
5th – Scot
OVERALL: 5th (-4)
NOAH RANK: 4th
COLIN RANK: 4th
IVAN RANK: 6th
JARROD RANK: 6th
NOAH: Scot is tight with Jason and Tai but the edit is starting to show him as cocky and potentially unaware. He blurted out about Tai’s idol which could come back to haunt him. He is in the majority right now but they may want to break up the Scot/Jason pairing soon.
COLIN: I don’t know how it helps to spill the beans on Tai’s idol, and the approach he and Jason took with “recruiting” Nick was way too aggressive. The bonus for Scot is Jason is way more unlikeable, Cydney will be a much bigger physical threat, and if he does pair with Nick then I would say Nick is both unlikeable and a physical threat. He’s surrounding himself with the right people.
IVAN: Gave Nick way too much information too soon. Pretty much assumed Nick was going to work with him from the get go. Did he get that much of a good impression of Nick from that basketball reward challenge? Especially in modern Survivor, players with a lot of Tribal Council visits going into the merge tend to be one of the more sharper players, but Scot gives us some good moments and less than stellar ones. We’ll see how things go later but for now this is where I think he stands.
JARROD: Scot has fully tied his horse to the Beauty group after alienating the Brains post Peter’s boot. He was doing so well being separated from his partner in crime Jason but when paired together they seem to bring out the worst in each other. His overconfidence will likely be his undoing.
6th – Jason
OVERALL: 6th (-1)
NOAH RANK: 5th
COLIN RANK: 7th
IVAN RANK: 5th
JARROD RANK: 7th
NOAH: Jason is in control of his alliance but people are perceiving him as being in control which is not a good thing. Luckily he has the idol, knows about Tai’s idol and has some tight bonds.
COLIN: It has been a long time since anyone in the game said something positive about Jason. There’s a chance this new alliance with Nick could work out, but we simply don’t know.
IVAN: Excessive cockiness may start to get the better of Jason in this game, and he may have Michele to thank for that not blowing up in his face at least not in the near future. It’s still far from Final Tribal Council but it will seem like his options of people he can beat at the end will be limited. But with his idol and possible access to the super idol, he will have a lot of say in proceedings before his possible downfall.
JARROD: Just like Scot Jason is full steam ahead with the Beauties and he now has the knowledge of Tai’s idol to potentially form a super idol. Michele briefly mentioned how he wouldn’t get any votes if he makes it to the end which could definitely be foreshadowing his longevity in the game. Brawn look to be safe right now and he always has his idol if things change.
7th – Julia
OVERALL: 7th (-)
NOAH RANK: 9th
COLIN RANK: 10th
IVAN RANK: 4th
JARROD RANK: 4th
NOAH: She has received less confessionals than Cambodia Wiglesworth at this point. She is in the majority but she isn’t making an impact in the game. Julia won’t win.
COLIN: I know she survived the previous vote, but I almost felt like she was the one voted out. If she’s still out there the editors need to remind us.
IVAN: A fundamental rule of Survivor is nobody owes anyone anything. Laura Morett saved Tina Wesson in BvW, Josh Canfield saved Baylor Wilson in BvW2, and look how that worked out for Laura and Josh. However it seems like Julia has a strong degree of loyalty to Scot and Tai for keeping her safe after her late debut in the post swap tribe phase. It’s not necessarily the worst route for Julia to go, but she definitely isn’t in the power position there.
JARROD: Julia is flying under the radar right now and seems to be in no danger whatsoever of going home. The question remains as to whether she can step up and become a contender in this game.
8th – Debbie
OVERALL: 8th (-4)
NOAH RANK: 8th
COLIN RANK: 5th
IVAN RANK: 10th
JARROD RANK: 9th
NOAH: A bit of a hit for Debbie. She is down but she certainly isn’t out though. If she can take a bit of a backseat then the Brains could become more successful.
COLIN: It’s amazing how the simplest look and comment can change how we perceive someone. Debbie was making alliances with everyone for weeks and she looked like a star. This week we have one brief comment about Tai not liking the way she does it and suddenly she looks like a buffoon.
IVAN: The magic appears to be running out for Debbie. Similarly to Phillip in Caramoan, she seemingly effortlessly and successfully made every alliance she wanted in the premerge. Now patience on her is wearing thin. There is a possibility she could be dragged as a goat, but the other players seem aware that she is a game player. By that, she is an unsubtle and aggressive gameplayer, which is enough to unnerve people in Survivor (see Jean-Robert Bellande and Joel Anderson)
JARROD: She played the initial game and post-swap so well that it’s kind of upsetting to see her struggle at the merge but it looks like we may be starting to see her downfall. She’s turned Nick and Tai offside with her confrontational style of gameplay and she’s wearing down people’s patience. Debbie is no longer viewed as the clueless kooky woman but rather a legitimate player.
9th – Joe
OVERALL: 9th (+1)
NOAH RANK: 10th
COLIN RANK: 8th
IVAN RANK: 8th
JARROD RANK: 8th
NOAH: A very minimal edit and he is in the minority alliance. Not to mention Scot had no hesitation to vote him out. Joe won’t win.
COLIN: I love Joe as a character, and I don’t think he has made any real mistakes so far, but he’s just not in a good position. I’m not seeing a lot of strong allies out there for him. If he’s next to go I want to see him go into FBI mode one more time on Jason, just for entertainment.
IVAN: With Aubry being seen as a solid player/easy target and Debbie getting on people’s nerves, at least Joe will be safe for a few more votes even if Brains get Pagonged. But at this point, Joe does not seem to have many options left in the game to be a significant force. He played well to an extent in the pre merge but looks like he’ll be dispatched without much trouble when his time comes post merge.
JARROD: There have been plenty of hints dropped that Joe could be the next medevac but we didn’t see him getting a check-up from the doctor which makes me believe he could be safe from being pulled from the game. While Aubry and Debbie are playing aggressive, Joe appears to be going with the flow. Pair that with being no real threat in the challenges and he could be around for a while yet.
10th – Aubry
OVERALL: 10th (-4)
NOAH RANK: 7th
COLIN RANK: 9th
IVAN RANK: 9th
JARROD RANK: 10th
NOAH: She so nearly got voted out this week. Aubry is in the minority, a target and didn’t get Neal’s idol. It is a good sign that she is receiving more airtime but that could be just making her near departure more impactful.
COLIN: She took a lot more heat from the Peter vote than I imagined she would. There’s a massive target on her, and if rumors are true about Neal not wanting to give her the idol, her social game is even worse than we’ve been led to believe. I’m not holding out a lot of hope for her.
IVAN: Clearly hit the hardest by Neal’s evacuation. What Aubry does have going for her is she has made a solid impression on many of the Beauty players, so there may still be a way back for her, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. If this is the beginning of the end for Aubry, I commend her on playing well enough with her given options but sometimes you reach a dead end. The elite Survivor players turn those dead ends into hidden paths; I’m not sure if Aubry is elite.
JARROD: Neal’s evacuation seemingly saved Aubry from being the first jury member but can she use her second chance to better her position in the game? There were definitely glimpses that this could be a turning point for her and given the right challenge I could see her winning immunity next week. With Neal’s idol gone she’s probably less of a target and somebody like Nick may try to switch the vote to another Brain. However, something needs to change drastically next episode to keep her around.
