The biggest Survivor event of 2013 is here!

In 2012 you will remember we held the ultimate Survivor Oz poll, where we asked you to vote in several categories to determine everything from the sexiest contestants right through to the greatest contestants of all time. It drew an amazing response and gave some incredible results, and in 2013 the poll has evolved into something even bigger…the Ozcars! Yes, our very own annual awards show has been born, and the Ozcademy has come together to create the biggest Survivor award show of it’s kind. And as always, we want YOU to be involved.

Just like in 2012, we will run a survey style poll for you to vote in. This will have 17 different categories for you to have your say in, and together these 17 questions will form 14 different awards. The votes will be compiled with votes from the Survivor Oz crew, as well as from our Survivor guests who have appeared on the show. Once these results have been tallied, each award category will have 5 finalists announced. Then, a separate voting period will be held to determine the overall winner, with an ‘awards ceremony’ to be held to declare the winners. A special 15th award will also be presented, to be strictly chosen by the Survivor Oz crew.

The first initial voting period will open on the 14th of May (Australian time) and run for a period of 2 weeks, closing on the 28th of May at 6PM Australian Eastern Standard Time. From there, 5 finalists will be announced in each category, with a further 10 day voting period happening until the midnight AEST on the 7th of June. From there, the winners will be announced on a planned award ceremony date of the 10th of June (Australian time) or the 9th of June US time. The finalist period will allow the finalists in each category (where applicable) to campaign for their respective award.

Modelled after the infamous “It’s a fucking stick” moment from Eliza in Micronesia, the Ozcar is a solid piece of wood on a small platform, representing the essence that represents Survivor and Survivor Oz. Given our helpers (the Ozlets) are named after a reference from Cirie in the same season in relation to Ozzy and Amanda procreating, it seemed appropriate to honour the reference by including Ozzy’s famous stick as the trophy. There is no actual physical award, but winners will be presented with a certificate of recognition for winning their respective category, as well as having the honour and dignity of being crowned the Ozcademy Award winner for 2013. It’s a massive honour, and one that Survivor contestants will be fighting over for many years to come.

There are 15 categories for 2013, with 14 being voted for by the public (and compiled with peer and Survivor votes) and one Survivor Oz award. The 6 ‘awards’ from 2012 have been retained, with the addition of 9 further awards. The categories are:

(2012 Winner: N/A)

With 26 seasons of Survivor behind us, there have been 24 people voted out first and one person medically evacuated. But who is the best of all time? This will ask you who you think deserves the title of the best first boot, be it simply based on you liking their personality or based purely on you thinking they deserved to go further than first.

(2012 Winner: N/A)

Despite missing out on the merge, there have been numerous players who have played Survivor who often could’ve and should’ve gone further. But who is the best? This is your opportunity to finally decide once and for all who is the best, and give them the honour of walking away with the 2013 Ozcar for Best Pre-Merge Player! We will also allow players who have made the merge but missed out on the jury.

(2012 Winner: N/A)

So you’ve made the jury but missed out on the final tribal council. How can you be remembered? Is it by giving a great jury speech? Maybe some great facial expressions? Or maybe it’s just being from being so dominant all season but not making it all the way to the end. This category will help determine who is the best player to have made the jury, but never further.

(2012 Winner: N/A)

One of three categories that will also have ‘negative’ votes counted towards them, this will help determine filming location of Survivor is the best of all time.

(2012 Winner: Colby Donaldson)

With so many sexy men over the years, just who is the sexiest? This will be your opportunity to finally have a say.

(2012 Winner: Parvati Shallow)

With so many sexy women over the years, just who is the sexiest? This will be your opportunity to finally have a say.

(2012 Winner: N/A)

We had an entire season based on Heroes & Villains, but just who is the biggest hero of them all? You could vote on anything ‘heroic’ you believe the Survivor contestant did, male or female. There are plenty to choose from but who will come out on top?

(2012 Winner: N/A)

Without a villain, could you have a hero? Doubtful, but you also have to be able to vote for your favourite ‘evil’ contestant of all time. Are there more to choose from then heroes? Who knows, but now you can choose just who is the most devious of them all.

(2012 Winner: N/A)

With each year giving us two new seasons with (most of the time) new players, it’s time to determine which of these newbies has what it takes to be crowned the winner of best new player. This category will determine which player from the 25th season of Philippines and 26th season of Caramoan is the best noob.

(2012 Winner: N/A)

There have been over 200 individual Survivor contestant interviews, as well as Ozlet, experts and everyone else in between showcased on this show. But which interview is the best? Be them the most entertaining, most informative or even most influential, now is your chance to vote which of our interviews is the greatest! Generally this category will feature interviews over the last 12 months, but this is open to ALL interviews since the start of our show for this year only.

(2012 Winner: N/A)

The only non-public voted category, the Survivor Oz team each year will award one person who has been a driving influence on Survivor it’s annual lifetime achievement Ozcar. This isn’t just for contestants, it can be anyone from production team, hosts, creators, media personnel or even super fans.

(2012 Winner: Heroes vs Villains)

Part of the ‘big four’ awards, we will determine which season is the best of all time. Another one of the three categories to also have ‘negative’ votes included, it will single out the 26 seasons and rank them, as well as determining which stands out to take the crown of the best.

(2012 Winner: Rob Cesternino)

The second of the ‘big four’, which player who has never won deserves the title of ‘greatest to have never won’? Given there have been 371 people to play the game who aren’t millionaires (including a certain pirated looking guy who ran for Governor) from Survivor, there are plenty to choose from. Who will come out on top?

(2012 Winner: Kim Spradlin)

The third of the ‘big four’, it’s time to determine who is the best winner of all time. With 25 to choose from, it may sound easier than it actually is, but negative votes also come into play with this category as well. Will definitely create plenty of talk, no matter who wins.

(2012 Winner: Sandra Diaz-Twine)

This is the big one, and the one surely to cause the most debate. Just who out of the 396 people to play Survivor is the best of all time? This is your opportunity to decide once and for all.

Just like in 2012, we will publish the top 25 of each category to show you who made the list outside of the 5 finalists for each category. This will allow you to see just how your favourite contestant/season/location/interview compared to the winner and finalists. These final results will be published after the winners have been announced at the winners ceremony.

As of now, the winners ceremony is planned for the 10th of June Australian time (9th of June US time) at a time yet to be determined. We will hope to do this live, with winners and finalists on stand by to talk about their win or loss. We will update this page with more details as they come to hand.

Voting has now closed for the Ozcars 2013. The winners have since been announced. You can click the link above to see who won, as well as find out the top 25 in each category. Thanks to everyone who voted and took part in the Ozcars 2013! They will return in 2014, bigger and better than ever!
